Football Africa is a project born out of an idea that, like all great ideas, happened on a Friday night. It was pretty simple. A group of ordinary, everyday people will head to Africa and attempt to play football everyday, in every community, from North to South. We were going to rock up, find two teams, and get a game of footie going. With the World Cup being held on the continent for the first time in 2010, we thought it would be amazing to experience the whole country through the eyes of 2010 football fans. We would film everything we did, as we want to document this incredible journey.

However, as simple as that seemed, is as involved as this project has now become. As we scratched the surface of the idea, we discovered how complicated, difficult, daring and emotional this journey will become. As we looked further and further into the idea, and spoke to more and more people, we realised it wouldn't just be about football. It would be about Football & Africa itself. We spoke to charities that had worked out there, and became more and more involved with them. They told us of the HIV/AIDS epidemic that continues to take millions of lives, an epidemic that is so bad it's now classified by the Red Cross as a 'Global Disaster'. Tackle Africa showed us football coaching drills that they've carefully developed. They told us how football was providing them with the tools to help educate children of all ages, boys & girls, against this terrible disease. To provide the children with the information they require to help prevent the disease and it's spread. The Great Football Giveaway are helping us to continue their work distributing footballs to the communities we visit.

Football Africa started as a laugh, and we intend to keep that spirit throughout our journey, but we also know that Football Africa, thanks to it's links with Tackle Africa, The Great Football Giveaway, Link Ethiopia & The Mango Tree, will be more then just a laugh. It's an opportunity for a group of ordinary, everyday people to meet many groups of extraordinary people. It's an opportunity to share any knowledge we've been privileged to learn, through those amazing charities, and help in a small way, as much as we can.
